Structures and Fire

Serdar Selamet is a structural fire and wildfire engineer and the author of Yangın Mühendisliği, the first comprehensive fire engineering textbook published in Turkish.

Structural fire safety engineering addresses how buildings and infrastructure perform under realistic fire and multi-hazard conditions. Beyond traditional prescriptive methods, modern fire engineering integrates heat transfer, material degradation, structural mechanics, and uncertainty quantification to evaluate performance at the component, system, and community scale.

My work spans structural fire engineering, wildfire/WUI engineering, and community-scale risk assessment. In consulting, I analyze fire performance of steel, concrete, and composite systems; evaluate post-fire stability of tall buildings; assess fireproofing adequacy; and investigate fire and explosion incidents.

In parallel, my research and teaching advance computational and data-driven tools for fire–structure interaction and wildfire exposure, including the FEHEAT platform and structure-to-structure ignition models for WUI communities.

I post short explainers on structural fire engineering, WUI fire behavior, and computational tools like FEHEAT and OpenSeesPy workflows. Subscribe to follow new content: Tweets  |  YouTube
